Situational Crises

Situational Crises Life is full of traumatic events and sudden situation most of us are not prepared to handle. Many of them are predictable but others are total surprises. Crises can be developmental like adolescence, midlife crisis and aging while others are situational. The Chinese character for crisis is made up of two symbols, one for danger and the other for opportunity. We can understand crisis as a turning point on one's life, either toward destruction and despair or growth and improvement. Examples of situations that represents turning point in our lives could be lay off from a job, retirement, moving, launching kids, sudden death of a loved one, or a sudden illness. Many more events that occur over the course of one’s life can represent a crisis. In those types of events, people need to learn different styles of coping mechanisms and ways to move from danger toward opportunity.
