Phobias and Fears

Phobia is generally known as an extreme or irrational fear of something. Phobia may take many forms. Social phobia is an extreme fear of being in a situation where the person maybe under scrutiny or attack from others. This fear may result in heart palpitation, sweaty hands or dry mouth.

It may make a person avoids social gatherings where they will be the focus of attention or required to perform. There is another type of phobia, which is called specific phobia. This phobia results from an extreme fear of a single thing like getting on elevators, or riding a plane or eating a certain type of food or fear of heights. These situations are constantly avoided or endured with an extreme caution and fear.

A combined treatment of psychotherapy or counseling along with medications could be effective in treatment of phobias.
